Bob Log III

rock and roll · experimental rock

Bob Log III, born Robert Logan Reynolds III in Chicago in 1969 and raised in Tucson, Arizona, is an American one-man band who plays slide guitar and drums simultaneously while singing through a telephone receiver wired into a helmet. He performs in a full-body human cannonball suit, working a kick drum and foot cymbal with his feet and old Silvertone archtop guitars with his hands, and bills the result as a blues punk guitar dance party built on audience participation. He was given his first guitar at eleven and took up slide at sixteen, drawing on the Delta playing of Mississippi Fred McDowell alongside AC/DC, Bo Diddley and Chuck Berry. He played in the Tucson experimental percussion group Mondo Guano before spending six years in the Delta blues duo Doo Rag with Thermos Malling, which released Chuncked & Muddled and Barber Shop in 1994 and Doo Rag, What We Do in 1996. His solo career began in the late 1990s with School Bus in 1998 and Trike in 1999 for Fat Possum, followed by the concert album Live!!! Aloha from Japan on Bloat Records in 2000, Log Bomb for Fat Possum in 2003, and My Shit is Perfect in 2009, issued jointly by Birdman, Voodoo Rhythm and Bloat. He self-released Guitar Party Power and Bump or Meow Vol 1 in 2016, and singles have appeared on Sympathy for the Record Industry, Dropkick and Munster. He has opened for R.L. Burnside, Ween and Franz Ferdinand, and tours more or less continuously, keeping bases in both Tucson and Melbourne, Australia.
