Blue Water Highway
americana · folk rock · indie rock
Blue Water Highway is an Austin, Texas americana and folk-rock band led by childhood friends Zack Kibodeaux and Greg Essington, named for the coastal road that runs from the mouth of the Brazos River to Galveston. Its music is built on close harmony singing and narrative songwriting that borrows from both traditional and contemporary sources; reviewers reach for comparisons to the Eagles, Bruce Springsteen and Counting Crows, and the Austin American-Statesman has called the group one of Austin's best Americana acts, with legitimate national potential. Its third album, Paper Airplanes, was produced by Cason Cooley of NEEDTOBREATHE. The band self-produced the follow-up, Year of the Dragon, which it describes as its most ambitious project, and its most recent album is Waiting On A Wonder, a set that leans on Southern Gothic storytelling. Blue Water Highway has toured nationally and internationally for more than a decade, headlining its own shows and opening for Bob Seger, Reckless Kelly, Turnpike Troubadours, Shane Smith and the Saints, Big Head Todd and the Monsters, and Jonny Lang. The band treats its live show as central to its reputation rather than as a promotion of the records.
