Black Sunrise is a heavy rock band from Highland, in Northwest Indiana, whose riff-driven, doom- and stoner-leaning songs it bills as heavy music for hard times. The band tags its own recordings as heavy blues rock and psychedelic rock, and builds them around thick guitar tone, expressive vocals and tight rhythm playing rather than extremity for its own sake. It self-releases through Bandcamp, where its catalogue runs from The Big Show EP in December 2023 through the singles Bar Fight and Running Out of Time in July 2025 and on to the full-length Drowning, issued August 22, 2025 and produced by John Hehman at Bang Studios. Drowning collects eleven tracks including Panic Attack, Forget Regret, Nightman, New Enemy, One God, the six-minute title cut and Hey Now, which features Lucas Theroux; the writing is credited collectively to the band rather than to individual members. Black Sunrise works the regional doom and stoner-rock circuit around the southern end of Lake Michigan, playing bills such as a Grand Rapids Doom Fest takeover at Burn 'Em Brewing in Michigan City, Indiana, alongside LungBurner from Denver and Messiahvore from Atlanta.
