Better Off Dead is a Grateful Dead tribute band based in the Mid-Atlantic region. Founded by guitarist and vocalist Rex Wilkes, the ensemble features lead guitarist Alex DiPietro, bassist John Butte, drummer Andrew Ellinghaus, and keyboardist Will Layman. The band focuses on improvisational interpretations of the vast catalog of the Grateful Dead and the Jerry Garcia Band. A mainstay of the Washington, D.C. area jam circuit, Better Off Dead performs regularly at regional stages including The Hamilton Live in Washington, D.C.
