Bermuda Search Party

indie rock · alternative rock · pop rock

Bermuda Search Party is a Boston pop-rock band that formed among students at Berklee College of Music and came up through the city's college and DIY scene. The group is led by Leo Son on guitar and vocals and Claire Davis on bass and vocals, with Maclin Tucker on trumpet and keyboards and Hoyt Parquet on trombone, a horn-forward lineup that gives the band an unusual texture for indie pop. The four played together for roughly seven years under the name The Q-Tip Bandits before rebranding as Bermuda Search Party in early 2024, a change Son has described as a preemptive move against trademark trouble; the band worked through some two hundred candidate names before settling on the current one. They self-produced and released their debut album Melancholy Flowers in 2022. Their second album, Fools On Parade, arrived on April 4, 2025 through Nettwerk Music Group and was recorded in Los Angeles with producer Eric Palmquist, whose credits include Half Alive, Tate McRae and Bad Suns. Drummer Dakota Maykrantz completed his parts for the record before amicably leaving the group. Son has said the album's songs deal with relationships past, whether romantic, platonic or paternal, approached through comedy and buoyancy rather than gravity; the single Sed N Dun comes from those sessions. The band has played Boston Calling, Summerfest, SXSW and Treefort Music Festival, and drew four Boston Music Awards nominations in 2025, among them Live Act of the Year, Pop Act of the Year, Album of the Year and Video of the Year. Their live show leans on the horn section and on Son and Davis trading and stacking vocals.
