Beartooth
metalcore · metal · post-hardcore
Beartooth is a metalcore and hard rock band formed in Columbus, Ohio in 2012 by vocalist and multi-instrumentalist Caleb Shomo, previously the vocalist of Attack Attack!. Shomo started it as a solo studio project, playing every instrument himself, and it became his main work after he left Attack Attack!; he still writes, performs and produces the studio records largely alone. The name comes from Beartooth Court, the street where the original bassist grew up. A free debut EP, Sick, appeared online in 2013, and the band signed to Red Bull Records, which released the first five albums: Disgusting (2014), Aggressive (2016), Disease (2018), Below (2021) and The Surface (2023). The sixth, Pure Ecstasy, arrives 28 August 2026 and is their first for Fearless Records, supported by a US tour running through the autumn. The touring lineup around Shomo has been stable for years: Oshie Bichar on bass and backing vocals since 2014, Connor Denis on drums and Zach Huston on lead guitar since 2018, and Will Deely on rhythm guitar since 2021, all contributing backing vocals. Critics place the band between metalcore, melodic hardcore and alternative metal, and consistently note the distance from Shomo's earlier work: where Attack Attack! leaned on electronic elements, Beartooth pairs hardcore aggression and gang vocals with arena-scale choruses and pop-shaped hooks. The lyrics deal openly with depression, anger and self-destruction, which has given the band a reputation for catharsis rather than posturing. Beartooth won Metal Hammer's Golden Gods award for Best Breakthrough Band in 2016 and has picked up further nominations since.
